Rev Dugald MacEchern (Photo A Paterson, Inverness) The Rev. Dugald MacEchern (picture right) was the Parish Minister of Coll in 1905 when the funds were raised at a Bazaar in Inverness to build a new church in Arinagour. Up to 1907 the church was located at Clabbach at the rear of the manse. The old manse is the present dwelling of Pete and Sally Smalley.

1906The Bazaar raised some £1,100 which was enough to construct the present building on the hill overlooking the village and the bay. The new church opened in 1907 although we do not know the precise date of the dedication service. The picture of the church shown opposite was taken in 1906 just prior to external completion and as can be seen, the surrounding area is still a building site. The picture was provided by Robert Sturgeon whose grandfather may have been the photographer.

The Coll Parish Church office bearers leading the new building project were:

Rev Dugald MacEchern

- The Manse, Coll

Mr James Lightbody

- Elder, Treasurer, Crossipol, Coll

Mr James Irvine

- Elder, Session Clerk, Breacacha, Coll

The Rev. MacEchern was great uncle to Julianna Nicolls who now lives in Talla Lan (old school), Arinagour and who is very much part of the ongoing island community and is playing a major part in the centenary project.

Our present minister is Rev. George G Cringles whose main Charge is at Connel on the mainland. Within the Church of Scotland, Coll is linked to Connel and is officially designated - Parish of Coll with Connel: St Oran's and Dunbeg.
