Centenary Celebrations

On Sunday 23rd September 2007 the congregation of Coll Parish Church celebrated the centenary of their church building. Morning worship took the form of a family service with children from Arinagour Primary School taking part. Led by the minister, the Rev. George Cringles, the theme of the service was 100 years of praise, prayer and preaching in Coll Parish Church. After the service the congregation gathered in the manse to share fellowship and enjoy a slice of centenary celebration cake. A songs of praise service was held in the evening when many favourite hymns chosen by the congregation were sung with great gusto. The Coll Singers also shared in both services.

Over the past three years the community of Coll and the congregation have been actively fundraising for the centenary restoration project, which included among other repairs, repointing of the stonework, renewal of plasterwork, internal redecoration and the refurbishment of the church bell, which can now be rung again after many years silence. Grateful thanks is expressed to everyone who worked so hard to ensure the success of the project, and to all who have supported the fundraising in any way. Your generosity has resulted in a total of over £29,000 being raised to date, which is a remarkable achievement. A history of Coll Parish Church has been written by Major Nicholas Maclean-Bristol and copies can be obtained directly from him.
